Gunnedah Cycling & Triathlon Club and Tamworth Cycle Club have informed Cycling NSW that the state open races scheduled for the weekend of 12–13 September have been cancelled.
The two events cancelled are the Keegan Downes Memorial Handicap (from Coonabarabran to Gunnedah) and the Gunnedah to Tamworth Graded Scratch Races.
Due to concerns relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the clubs have informed Cycling NSW that they are unwilling to stage the events at this time. Cycling NSW respects the decision of the clubs.
The protection of public health continues to be of primary importance to the cycling comunity. All club and state races sanctioned by Cycling NSW must be conducted in accordance with Cycling NSW and NSW Government requirements and guidelines, including the implementation of a COVID-19 Safety Plan.
Cycling NSW takes this opportunity to remind cyclists not to participate in gatherings if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, have recently returned from Victoria or overseas, or have visited one of the government's identified case locations requiring them to self-isolate and get tested immediately.
Riders seeking a race that weekend could consider entering the Canberra Junior and Women's Criterium Challenge hosted by Cycling ACT.
