Cycling NSW is excited to partner with The Saddlers Mountain Bike Club Tenterfield and Tenterfield Shire Council to present Gravel n Granite, a new gravel race across spectacular granite country in northern NSW.
Gravel n Granite will take place on Saturday 21 August, 2021, offering a mixed-road adventure over three distances: 28km, 65km and 102km.
Starting and finishing from Tenterfield’s iconic showgrounds, the routes will take riders over a variety of surfaces across granite country, including bitumen, dirt, gravel and a range of scenery with great elevation.
The 102km course, for example, will include two crossings of Mole River and a climb taking in the views of Gunyah Road Lookout before descending back into town, with a total of 1,500 metres elevation gain.
Chris Thompson of cyclesense-excellence, the event director behind the Grafton to Inverell, has worked with the club to organise the event.
“The region’s scenic, challenging gravel roads interspersed with quiet bitumen sections presents potential to attract a wide-range of participants from around the country,” said Thompson.
After the ride, participants and their families can enjoy a race village atmosphere at the showgrounds in the heart of town, with food, coffee, local brews, wine and music going into the evening.
Riders will be supported with on-course refreshment stations, portable toilets, first aid and a sag wagon.
The event is receiving government grant funding after the region was hit hard by bushfires. Local organisers intend that Gravel n Granite will generate enough momentum and attendees to become a highlight of Tenterfield’s annual event calendar, attracting hundreds of participants from near and far.
Entries are now open. The event is open to riders aged 13 years and over at all levels of experience.
