COVID-19 Advice Statement from CNT

As you are all aware by now, the COVID-19 virus has impacted sports from all corners of the spectrum and unfortunately, cycling as a sport is not immune.

As a consequence of the outlining health reports from SecureNT and other sectors of the NT Government including CA post (17/03/20) outlining its position with COVID-19 virus, Cycling NT supports both the Darwin Cycling Club (DCC) and Alice Springs Cycling Club (ASCC) who have announced today that all club events and training rides will be cancelled effective immediately and until further notice. Cycling NT has set a review date of 30th April 2020 unless otherwise advised.

Cycling NT appreciates and applauds that the decision from both the DCC and ASCC to cancel all club events, effective immediately, until further notice has not been an easy decision to make, however, the decision is in the best interests of the safety of its members and the sport.

Cycling NT still encourage members of both Clubs to still ride socially and that social distances should be maintained whilst CA has issued suggestions for riders to consider in the current environment:

  • •If riding two abreast, keep the maximum allowable gap of 1.5 metres between riders and a gap of at least 1.5m to the rider in front of you, including while stopped at intersections;
  • • Limiting groups or bunches to 10 or fewer riders;
  • • Ensuring all riders are self-sufficient in case of mechanical issues;
  • • At cafes, maintain appropriate social distancing and keep helmets, gloves and sunglasses away from tables.

In closing, CNT would like to ask that all members take heed of the precautions associated with general hygiene and remind all members of the importance of keeping up to date with the ongoing advice from the NT Government and other sectors in respect of the continuing spread of COVID-19 in the community.

CNT is constantly monitoring COVID-19 and will post updates as required.  We continue to hope that the NT stays relatively COVID-19 free.
