It is important that your bike and helmet are safe to use.
How do I make sure my bike and helmet are safe to use?
If you are planning to use your own bike and helmet for Cycling & Co., you must ensure they are safe to use.
Make sure your helmet fits properly - it shouldn’t be too big or too small
Make sure your helmet is good condition - check for cracks or dents in the plastic or foam
Make sure your bike is the right size - it shouldn't be too big or too small
Make sure your bike is in good working order by checking the basic ABCs
Air. Ensure your tyres are pumped up. Look for the PSI number on the side of each tyre so you know how much air to put in.
Brakes. Make sure you can stop by checking the front and rear brake pads. A brake pad usually has grooves that are good indicators of wear.
Chain. Check your chain and make sure it is lubricated. A properly lubricated chain will give you a smooth ride, prevent rust and project the chain.
If these checks are beyond your expertise or if your bike needs to be repaired, then take your bike to your local bike shop and ask a mechanic to have a look.
Who will lead the Cycling & Co.rides?
Cycling & Co. rides will be guided by at least one Cycling Australia-accredited Ride Leader. Every Ride Leader has a valid Working with Children Check and a First Aid certificate.
Ride Leaders are experienced bike riders with excellent knowledge of the road rules and group riding. Safety is their number one priority.
Ride Leaders will carry a basic bike toolkit and will be able to provide some basic bike maintenance during the ride if required.

Do I need a mobile phone?
